The following text should display the kanji for nihongo: 日本語 .
If you can see this kanji, then your system is correctly setup for using the KanjiDrill website. If you can't see this kanji then follow the instructions in the next section to install the necessary fonts.
The Microsoft website has some information on setting up Japanese for the various versions of Windows.
If you don't have your Windows CD available near by, then all you really need to do is install some Japanese fonts on your system. You can find self-installing packages, for the Japanese fonts Mincho (recommended) and Gothic, located on the Monash University web-site. You may need to restart Windows to get these fonts properly installed.
The Apple Macintosh computers should come installed with all the Japanese fonts that you require. During testing, we found that Kanji Drill works better with the Safari browser for the Macintosh rather then the I.E. browser from Microsoft.
Japanese fonts should ship with your distribution of Linux. Make sure that the Japanese font file has been added to the proper font directory and then make sure that 'mkfontdir' has been run.
In general, the Kanji Drill site's web pages have been configured to tell your browser which font to use. You should not have to do any special configuration of your browser.
